What Happens During a Roof Installation

So, you’re thinking of booking a roof installation with Shepherd Roofing and Renovations—but are you interested in knowing what happens next?  You’ve made the wise decision to entrust your roof to a team of professionals, but you might be wondering about the specifics of the installation process.  Let’s walk through what you can expect what happens during a roof installation with us.

Arrival and Preparation

Our crew will arrive bright and early, typically between 6:30 to 8 am, ready to get started (weather permitting). Their first order of business is prepping to tear off the old roof. This involves setting up a dump truck or dump trailer in the driveway to efficiently dispose of all the old roofing materials. We kindly ask that you remove your vehicles from the garage beforehand to ensure unobstructed access.

Shingle Delivery and Permit Posting

Meanwhile, shingles will be delivered to the site, typically between 6 am to 10 am, although they won’t be needed until after the old roof is removed. One of our project managers will be on-site in the morning to post the permit on your front door, oversee the beginning of the project, and meet with the crew chief.

Attic Inspection and Precautions

Before the installation kicks off, we’ll need access to your attic to check for any copper AC lines that may be nestled against the roof decking. This precaution ensures that they won’t be punctured during the installation of the new shingles. We’ll also inspect connections like water heater and furnace flues to ensure they’re secure.

City Inspection Coordination

Once everything checks out, we’ll schedule a city inspection on your behalf, coordinated by our office administrator. While we’ll make every effort to coordinate a specific day, your cooperation in granting access to the property to a city official is crucial. Depending on your local regulations, you may or may not need to be home for this inspection.

Preparation for Vibrations

During the installation process, vibrations from nailing on new shingles may occur, so we recommend removing any delicate items or precious belongings hanging on walls, especially upstairs. Additionally, please park your vehicles away from your home to allow ample room for our crew to work efficiently.

On-Site Supervision and Quality Control

Throughout the day, our team, including project managers, will be on-site to address any issues that may arise – not likely. This ensures the smooth progress of the installation.

Duration and Completion

Depending on the size of the crew, the job may take one or two days to complete, with two days being the norm. Rest assured, your roof installation is in good hands with Shepherd Roofing and Renovations. We’re committed to delivering high-quality results and exceptional service throughout the process.
