Leaking Chimney in McKinney, Tx

When leaks occur, chimneys can pose significant challenges, potentially leading to water damage and structural issues. We understand the importance of addressing leaking chimneys promptly and effectively at Shepherd Roofing and Renovations. We’ll delve into a recent project where we successfully repaired a leaking chimney, detailing the steps to ensure a durable and long-lasting solution.

In our recent project, we meticulously assessed the chimney’s condition to pinpoint the source of the leak, enabling us to develop a tailored repair plan.

Repairing the Leaking Chimney:

Identifying the Issue: The first step in addressing a leaking chimney is identifying the root cause of the problem. Leaks can stem from damaged flashing, deteriorating shingles, or compromised siding.

Removal of Siding, Trim, and Shingles:

We carefully removed the siding, trim, and shingles to access the affected areas around the chimney. This step allowed us to thoroughly inspect the substrate for any signs of damage, ensuring a solid foundation for the repair work.

Substrate Inspection and Replacement:

Upon inspecting the plywood substrate, we replaced damaged sections to maintain structural integrity. Addressing underlying issues is crucial for preventing future leaks and ensuring the longevity of the repair.

Installation of Ice & Water Shield and Flashing:

To provide superior protection against moisture infiltration, we installed new Ice & Water Shields and flashing along the chimney base. These waterproofing measures create a barrier that effectively seals the vulnerable areas, minimizing the risk of leaks.

Shingle Replacement and Siding Installation:

With the foundation secured, we installed new shingles along the chimney base, ensuring a seamless integration with the existing roofing system. Additionally, we opted for fiber cement lap siding and trim, chosen for its durability and resistance to weathering.

Chimney Sealing and Painting:

To enhance both aesthetics and functionality, we sealed and painted the chimney to match the surrounding exterior. This final touch provides a cohesive look and adds an extra layer of protection against the elements.

Rake Wall Repair:

In addition to addressing the chimney leaks, we tackled any damage along the rake wall below the chimney. This involved removing and replacing damaged sections of lap siding, followed by sealing and painting to restore its appearance and integrity. We also cared to seal all vents, penetrations, and exposed nails, minimizing potential entry points for water infiltration.

Regular roof inspections and preventative maintenance are essential components of responsible homeownership, helping to protect against costly repairs and ensure the long-term durability of the roof.
